Thai Airlines and Cabin Crew Uniforms for Flights to Phuket and Koh Phangan

When traveling from Bangkok to regional destinations like Phuket, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, or Chiang Mai, you’ll use one of Thailand’s local airlines. Let me introduce the Thai airlines and their cabin crew uniforms.

Thai Airways Cabin Crew Uniform

First, we have Thai Airways, the national flag carrier of the Kingdom of Thailand. The cabin attendants’ uniforms come in various styles, some of which skillfully incorporate elements of traditional Thai attire. Seeing these uniforms at Thai airports often gives you that “I’ve arrived in Thailand” feeling. As mentioned earlier, Thai Airways went bankrupt but is currently undergoing restructuring with public funds.

Thai AirAsia Cabin Crew Uniform

When you think of Southeast Asian low-cost carriers (LCCs), AirAsia comes to mind. Although it’s a Malaysian company, Thai AirAsia operates domestic and international flights under the Thai entity. The cabin crew wears striking red suits, which leave a strong impression. Perhaps due to the uniform style, the image of the cabin attendants often includes a fuller bust. Previously, there were several routes to Japan, but all flights were suspended due to COVID-19. However, the Narita-Bangkok route is scheduled to resume in May 2022, so you’ll soon see cabin crew in red uniforms at Japanese airports again.

Bangkok Airways Cabin Crew Uniform

Bangkok Airways operates flights from Suvarnabhumi Airport and other regional airports in Thailand to domestic and neighboring countries. Although the airline discontinued its Japan routes around 2009 and may not be very familiar to Japanese travelers, it has the impressive distinction of owning its private airports. Samui Airport and Sukhothai Airport are owned by Bangkok Airways, and access to these airports is essentially monopolized by the airline’s flights. The cabin crew uniforms are light blue, and perhaps due to the company’s wealth from owning airports, the uniforms are elegant and less provocative compared to other LCCs.

Thai Nok Air Cabin Crew Uniform

Nok Air is a Thai LCC known for its brightly painted planes, and its cabin crew uniforms were also vivid yellow and quite eye-catching. Perhaps due to the company culture, Nok Air’s cabin attendants and ground staff often had bright hair colors, flashy makeup, and a generally glamorous appearance. “Nok” means “bird” in Thai. In addition to domestic flights to regional destinations like Chiang Mai and Udon Thani, Nok Air had joint operations with Singapore’s LCC Scoot on routes to Japan. They even operated a rather unique route connecting Bangkok to Hiroshima Airport, but they could not withstand the challenges posed by COVID-19. On July 30, 2020, Nok Air applied for corporate rehabilitation procedures under the bankruptcy law with the Central Bankruptcy Court of Thailand. The airline is currently under court supervision, aiming for restructuring.

Thai Smile Cabin Crew Uniform

Thai Smile is a group company 100% owned by Thai Airways, and it also operated routes to Japan under a codeshare agreement with Thai Airways. The airline operates many routes to neighboring countries like Phnom Penh in Cambodia and Vientiane in Laos. Although technically considered an LCC, Thai Smile offers complimentary beverages, free seat selection, and free checked baggage up to 20 kg, providing solid service. The cabin crew wears vibrant orange uniforms.

So, what did you think of the Thai cabin crew uniforms after so long? Watching the beautiful Thai cabin crew is always soothing!
